World-Herald food critic Sarah Baker-Hansen picked out a few of the top places to watch Sunday’s Super Bowl XLVI. Check out the interactive map below to see the best sports bars and other venues for NFL fans (or fans of pretty good commercials).
The Bottomless Glass: This bar and grill is having beer specials and an outdoor grill on Super Bowl Sunday. The bar, at 17520 Wright St., will have $2 Busch Light tall boys and $3.25 Coors Light “Man Cans” on Sunday. For more information, call the bar at 402-964-2022.
Glo Lounge: This midtown location will show the Super Bowl and the pregame show on all seven of its televisions, and also will offer specials starting at 3 p.m. The bar is offering unlimited beer, cocktails, wings and pizza for $30 per person during the day, and the special includes all domestic drafts, well cocktails and unlimited appetizers and pizza from a special buffet. DJ’s Dugout: The popular sports bar will have a number of specials during the game, including $4 16-ounce Bud Light titanium bottles, $6 Bud Light draws, $5 Zing Zang Bloody Marys, a dozen wings for $5.99, a meatball sandwich and fries for $5.99, $3 apple pie shots and $18 UV Vodka specialty buckets. The bar has three locations: downtown, at 1003 Capitol Ave., west Omaha at 636 N. 114th St., and in Bellevue, at 10308 S. 23rd St.
Aksarben Cinema: The theater will show the big game on the big screen. The Super Bowl party begins at 5:30. The theater asks that each guest bring a canned good or nonperishable food item to be donated to Together Inc. The theater’s bar will be open and the theater will pass out beads and giveaways. The theater is at 2110 S. 67th St.
The Slowdown: This rock club and bar will show the Super Bowl on its big screen and will have a special happy hour. From 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., the bar will offer free food and will have drink specials. The bar is at 729 North 14th St.
Ameristar Casino Hotel: The Casino in Council Bluffs will give away a 40-inch plasma television set during its Super Bowl Sunday event. The party in the Amerisports bar will include the game displayed on the 167-inch mega-screen television and a halftime inferno pizza-eating contest. Amerisports is inside the casino, at 2200 River Road in Council Bluffs.
The Whiskey Roadhouse: The bar, inside the Horseshoe Casino, will have $11 buckets of Miller Lite and Coors Lite during the game, along with game day food specials. The bar is inside the casino at 2701 23rd Ave., in Council Bluffs.
The Big Red Restaurant & Sports Bar: The restaurant and bar will give away cash prizes totaling $1,000 on Sunday. Throughout the game based on things that happen during the game — a safety, an interception, a penalty, for example — the bar will give out cash prizes. At the end of the game, it will give away a $250 grand prize. Big Red Restaurant is located at 8100 Cass St.
