It’s little secret that Nebraska’s 2013 recruiting class can and should be Bo Pelini’s best; it’ll be north of 20 players — streaking toward 25 — and NU has a better sense of how it wants to attack the Big Ten.
I can’t think of a better way to start than offering — and possibly securing commits from — the state’s two best high school prospects, both of whom will get plenty of attention from other BCS programs.
Lincoln Southwest linebacker Josh Banderas and Lincoln North Star running back/cornerback Mike Minter, Jr. just happen to be sons of former Huskers. Tom Banderas was a tight end on some of Tom Osborne’s best 1980s teams. Mike Minter, Sr. was a heady safety in the mid-90s, winning a national title in 1995 and All-Big 12 honors in 1996 before a long NFL career.
“I’m just hoping they are going to offer me,” Minter told Huskers Illustrated, a recruiting partner with The World-Herald. “That’s why I’m going this weekend — to hopefully see that offer.”
Mike Minter, Jr. essentially moved from Charlotte to Lincoln to get Nebraska’s attention. At cornerback he’s a little raw — he played it for just one year — but the kid has offers to Clemson and South Carolina for a reason.
Will NU acknowledge that or make Minter take in camp?
Josh Banderas already excelled at the U.S. Army All-American Junior Combine in January; I don’t suspect there’s much for him to prove in terms of measurables. He seems slightly more willing to look around a bit, but a Husker offer would send a strong message. One that Banderas may not be able to turn down.
Will other commits emerge from the weekend? NU’s putting on a full-court press for tight ends, and two good prospects — Des Moines (Iowa) West Dowling’s John Wisnieski and Chaparral’s (Colo.) Mitch Parsons — are two players coming in Saturday. I’ll take Parsons, an “adjuster” type who should soon get offers from every major West Coast school short of USC.
Huskers Illustrated has all the good stuff and we’ll have a story in tomorrow’s paper breaking down all the top names.

Just make the offer…What’s the issue????
With in state kids the coaches like to offer in person
Will probably make a lot of offers in person this weekend. If someone is set to come to Lincoln it’s better to offer them in person. You also don’t want an Admire were the kid is 20lbs and a few inches smaller than what he’s listed.
Aww, too cute.
But seriously, if all goes as planned, T-Melt will implode as usual, Bo will only win 4 or 5 games, and be replaced at seasons end.
This will give Osbornes replacement plenty of time to hire a qualified staff to reel in a solid recruiting class.
Honestly, what would you rather have:
-Nebraska wins a Big Ten championship and goes to the Rose Bowl
OR
-Nebraska goes 4-8 and Pelini gets fired.
I honestly think you’d prefer the second, which baffles me.
Don’t get it either. I hope both these players get offers from Nebraska soon.
Cally took 10-3 to 5-7. Pelini took worst NU season ever and 5-7 to 9-4.
He already has nothing in common with Cally. If the program did implode it would be just as he found it with a few good seasons in between.
Why don’t you just answer my question. If you could have one or the other next season:
–Big Ten Championship and Rose Bowl
OR
–a 4-8 season leading to Pelini’s firing
Which would you choose? I don’t care about what you think can, can’t, will, or will not happen — just tell me which scenario would make you happier.
CornDevil – I knew you were just an Iowa fan all along!
here is a question for you: If Nebraska won the Big, and a Rose Bowl game, would it merit firing the coach?
wait, wait, one more……Do you think its possible to win a conference championship, and still fire the head coach?
oh, oh, oh, oh, hold on, i have another one, could you possibly give me, and Husker Nation 1 indicator NU is in position to win a BIG Championship within the next two years?
Understand, your high school coach, could take NU to 9-3 and 8-4 year after year, c’mon there are 6 gimmies in a season, especially in the big slow.
There are coaches out there who have forgotten more than Pelini will ever know about developing talent getting paid 2.8 million less than him.
p.s. its good to see my secret admirer is back, nothing like the pure satisfaction to see someone who appreciates me enough to copy me <3
I don’t understand why you can’t just answer the question. I’m not asking if you think Nebraska could win a Big Ten championship under Pelini. I’m asking which scenario you would prefer: would you rather watch Nebraska win a Big Ten championship next year, or watch them go 4-8 and see Pelini get fired? What you think is impossible or unlikely doesn’t matter — it’s purely hypothetical. So…which would you prefer?
So…you’d rather be right than have your team win.
You aren’t a fan. You’re a HATER.
Go cheer someone else, loser.
Here is an example of what devil is talking about. in 1960 there was a recruit out of Omaha that would have been a five star plus if they would have had such a thing at that time. Would he go to Nebraska? Nebraska’s program was foundering in mediocrity at the time. The coach was on the hot seat. The player choose to go to school elsewhere because of percieved racism at Nebraska. The coach had a terrible season and Nebraska fired the coach and hired a relative unknown. The question is, if the 5*+ player had gone to lincoln would it have raised the program enough to save the coach’s job, but only enough to keep him going in mediority, and change history. We will never know, but thank God, Gayle Sayers went to Kansas, Bill Jennings got fired, and Bob Devaney became a Hall of Fame coach and built the foundation of the winningest team in college football in the last fifty years!
The point of the question is would you rather be right and see your team flounder or see them succeed and be wrong. So his answer either means he’d rather be right, or he’s so stubborn that even if Pelini took Neb to the Rose Bowl next year, he’d remain convinced Pelini is a terrible coach (note: I’m not actually suggesting we will go to the Rose Bowl). Either way, his answer is incredibly annoying and demonstrates exactly why (almost) no one takes his comments seriously.
Sorry, Gale Sayers, he was not a female.
4 or 5 wins? that’s rediculous, even for you.
NUCORNDEVIL, you are a mess. Do you know that five star athletes are the ones who usually can’t read defenses or offenses. They just have pure ability. Burfict of ASU is a perfect example. Skill, with no mental part of the game. It’s player development. We didn’t know we would have a new LB or DB coach, that Dennard wouldn’t start off the season, and that Crick wouldn’t finish the season. When life throws problems, you don’t pull redshirts off of kids to come in second place. The offensive line is young and defense will emerge. Kevin Williams, is a perfect example. Going to contribute, but, got hurt. I’m sorry to hurt your feelings, but, you can get rid of Bo, only if you want another Callahan. All of his five and four stars were busts……You tell me, where is Marlon Lucky – or the qb who went to NC state and stunk it up………DO you homework and don’t let others swade u by a recruiting class. It’s the only championship Mac Brown has won since his actual title……………………………………….have class
i just want a ‘Hoke’
Seriously…….i would feel much more comfortable with the Benson High football coach in Lincoln rather than Pelini.
Ugh!!!!
C’mon, dont you think Nebraska Football deserves better than some Ohio knuckledragger learning on the ‘fly’ calling it a ‘Process?’
No devil, There’s only one other person I’ve ever seen agree with you.
I’m sure if you were a UM fan you would have been at the head of the pack screaming that the program was ruined because you couldn’t get Jim and Hoke was a joke.
In fact, I hear UM was having some trouble filling up the big house, maybe it’s time to switch allegiances?
haha, that is hi and larious.
I just wanted to say: Thanks, Sam. Great Column.
This looks like the best Junior day I can remember. A lot of really talented kids will be on hand. NU’s early offer list is really impressive and a lot of kids look to have at least mild NU connections that will give us a chance. Haven’t watched a ton of video yet but Parsons from CO looks like a beast at TE. Just running through and by people all day, and we need a TE.
Minter is easily one of my all-time favorite Huskers and I can’t wait to see what Jr. brings to the table. Great family, great players and great love for the Husker program. Hopefully, a few more in state guys step up and prove themselves worthy of offers.
How many Junior Days do you remember?
How does Meyer (OSU) getting a commitment from an Ohio kid raise an eyebrow? When Ohio State comes to Nebraska and takes their top talent, then and only then will I raise a brow. Ohio kids want to play for?………..um, Ohio State!!!! Nebraska kids want to play for?…………uh, Nebraska. It’s not a million dollar secret. Read between the lines because their are several angles. At this time, all seem to be too negative….
Wouldn’t that be a sight? Meyer coming to Nebraska to scout a player.
Why? You guys act like he is God. Wasn’t he the guy that failed to teach Tim Tebow to pass in four years of coaching? There are no magical coaches. There is parity. Breakout teams usually breakout because they are cheating and eventually get caught. Last year everybody had Nebraska in their sights. Now it will be OSU. they will win some and lose some.
Correction: This is my Fav song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijPWBALdFcY but keep trying there junior, one day you may just get it.
Here’s my favorite song. Tears me up every time. Required for every fan; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6h55FzRJLbc
Wow that was good stuff, great memories thanks bud
Might want to ask Minter why he’s not allowed at school for a week.
Seriously, this is Junior Day. Man, all this baloney flying over a bunch of 15 & 16 year olds.
I’ll ANSWER THE $64 QUESTION………
I WOULD RATHER SEE THE CORNCOBS GO 4-8 THAN WIN THE Little 10….
THERE I SAID IT…………. NOW THE REST OF YOU SIT DOWN!!!!!!!
Doesn’t it give you extreme exhilaration to use the NUCORNDEVIL screen name? You are the envy of Husker bloggosphere.
Now that you have a real identity, you can start dating, climb the corporate Hardee’s ladder, possibly become a shift supervisor, the sky is the limit for you, loserdom all but a distant memory.
Sooka,
If NU went 4-8 next year they would STILL have a better record than your Colorado Puffalos!
24-50 since 2005, right?
3-10 last year?
Shoulder to shoulder, still losing in Boulder!
Uh-oh! Sucks to be a Buffawo!
This is why there is no place like Nebraska! Even the haters like NUcorndevil and Sooka are reading Nebraska websites and commenting on Nebraska news. Either their favorite teams are so bad that thier news isn’t worth their time or they are that insanely jealous of Nebraska Football. I think Bo is doing fine. It took Tom a while to get his first championship and figure out how to win without having to have the huge ego 5 stars or having to cheat to get there.
Also I would love to see both of these Nebraska kids get a scholorship. Minter Jr. has showed that he is willing to make sacrafices and work hard to play here. That is the type of player we need and excells here.
Go Big Red!
Love Corndevil and Sooka…. you guys r great. Whenever I have a recruit who is a 4, or 5 star and I hear him even mention hes interested in NU one of the things I tell him is read the blogs on Omaha.com, Big Red section…. hey I got to use whatever advantage I can get. I wish I knew the real names of Corndevil, and Sooka I would some how make sure a little money finds your mailbox each month….er wait a minute erase that last line !!!! NCAA doesn’t read these blogs…right ?
You know I for one have been giving this whole NUCORNDEVIL, Sooka , Joey anf that MCswine or what ever name the false hillbilly posts under some serious thought. I for one can see the benefit in the hate they post. First off it shows that NU football is on its way back, why else would non Husker fans devote so much time out of their lives to their hate. Second it rallies the true NU fans. It gives us a common goal. Many people here have suggested that if a recruit were to read the hate blogs posted on here it might drive the recruit away. Maybe that would happen but I am of the mind that a NU recruit has the brain power to see right through these haters and if the recruit does not have the brainpower not to see through them then the question would be is that recruit really Husker material.
We will see where Bo is going during Spring, if he honestly let’s
someone challenge T-crumble. If he doesn’t, and we start the
season with you-know-who at QB (it pains me to mention his
name), get ready for a long season. And that is going to make me
MAD!
I like football…just not the Huskers.
this is all you can muster? You work so hard @ copying my screen name this is your take?
I think you should make do with what brief opportunities you have, c’mon with it, man up!
Mike we are going to the rose bowl next year…I will bet any NU hating tool on here that we will
