Recruiting: Four-star DE visiting Saturday
BY | 8:49 pm, Monday, Feb. 20 | POSTED IN Big Red Today

Hosting the Big Ten Track and Field Championships has its dividends for the Nebraska program — the football team.

Brookfield (Wis.) Central defensive end Chikwe Obasih will be in Lincoln to watch his sister — Chidera Obasih — run sprints for Minnesota’s women. The four-star prospect also take a unofficial tour of NU while he’s at it.

The six-foot-four, 240-pounder hasn’t heard much from the Huskers — who have been zeroing in on another Wisconsin defensive end prospect, A.J. Natter — but he knows coach Bo Pelini’s defensive reputation.

“He’s a very fiery coach,” Obaish told Huskers Illustrated. “They are top defensively. Defense is what they are known for most of the time.”

The top prospect in Wisconsin according 247Sports, Obaish has offers from Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa State and Purdue. He had 83 tackles, six sacks and two forced fumbles for Brookfield Central, a school in the west suburb of Milwaukee. Obaish said he could project to end or even linebacker.

“I have very aggressive hands,” he said. “We work on our defensive line to make sure our linebackers are free so I know how to stop the run really well.”

But has Wisconsin carved out too big of a lead? Coach Bret Bielema made a big show out of offering Obaish in front of his family.

“The gravitational pull is huge,” he said. “Everyone here is a Badger fan. It’s the only major Division I football school in the state.”

Pull a Saban, and offer, in front of his Sister
and the entire Minnesota track team.
Offer 30 good ones and hope you can sign 20.

    • Mike Caramba says:

Better yet… Pelini should hire a guy to fly an airplane by the stadium with a “Will You Play For Me?” sign attached to the back. This will work.

      • Gravy says:

Dream, dream, dream. He’s NOT going to be a Husker and neither is Natter.

        • Mosier says:

Why are you negative on Natter? I would imagine we are his leader based on his comments and actions to this point.

          • Gravy says:

I’m ne gative due to the fact of the large number of four and five star recruits wyho have reneged the past five years prior to signing day. This should be a clue to anybody who knows college football that something is seriously wrong with the recruiting process, the program, the coach and/or the positiion coach. It speaks for itself….

          • Mosier says:

You could have just said, “I’m always negative.”

Natter isn’t a four star though so maybe we still have a shot. Is it just me or hasn’t over 1/3 of the last two classes been four stars?

Just because Peat joined the best OL class ever recruited doesn’t mean we can’t close.
