Recruiting: Top-rated QB looks for ‘more passing’ in NU offense
BY | 7:42 pm, Monday, Feb. 20 | POSTED IN Big Red Today

Dayton (Ohio) Alter quarterback Malik Zaire might seem like a shoo-in for Ohio State — especially since Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes have offered.

But the 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect has Nebraska and Pittsburgh in his top three, too. He’s already made a visit to the Panthers. Now four-star signal-caller — ranked as the No. 3 dual-threat quarterback in the country and the No. 113 player overall according to 247Sports — will head to Lincoln soon.

“I’m a huge fan of Nebraska and I really like Nebraska a lot,” he told Huskers Illustrated. “I’m trying to schedule my visit for early March. I’m trying to get there as early as possible just to get it out of the way. I’m planning on committing after visiting there or maybe after a visit to Notre Dame.”

The Fighting Irish, along with Wisconsin, round out Zaire’s top five. ND, you’ll recall, just signed Gunner Kiel in the 2012 class.

Although you can catch HI’s full story on Zaire — and it’s a good read — one item stuck out. It’s been a recurring theme with quarterbacks Nebraska already signed — like Tommy Armstrong – and 2013 targets. Offensive coordinator Tim Beck has an eye toward more passing.

“Something that Coach Beck has talked about is how they run the ball but he also wants to do a lot more passing,” he said. “Not that Taylor Martinez isn’t a good quarterback for Nebraska, but Beck wants to open up the passing game a little bit more. I think that’s what he wants to incorporate with me. He wants that aspect and get into a lot more passing.”

and

“I think with what they have and with my explosiveness and what I can bring to the Nebraska offense, it fits what he wants to do with me,” he said. “I can be very dynamic with what they need. We’ll see how it goes and what coach Beck wants to do with me.”

NU’s fully in the running for Zaire. Let’s see who makes the best case for his services.

101 Comments on Recruiting: Top-rated QB looks for ‘more passing’ in NU offense

  1. Husker Tadow says:

Visit Nebraska “to get it out of the way?” What does that mean Sam?

    • Sam McKewon says:

He wants to visit now and make his decision before summer even starts.

    • Mosier says:

The very next sentence, “I’m planning on committing after visiting there or maybe after a visit to Notre Dame.”

We may be top 3 but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

      • Gravy says:

We may get lucky .He is obviously quite aware that we have needed a REAL quarterback for many years.Unfortunately our coaches aren’t aware of that fact.

    • NUCORNDEVIL says:

It means that he has no intention of coming to a program with a guaranteed 4-5 losses a year as long as Pelini is here. He just wants to try a Runza.

      • UDontKnowFootball says:

as usual Corndevil you fail harder than Stoops in a bowl game. It must be terrible to watch football with you.

      • KSU student w/red blood says:

No it means he is keeping his options open until he visits each campus. You know….since Notre Dame had 5 losses and Ohio State had 7…

        Although Runzas ARE delicious!
        (There are none in Kansas)

    • Colorado Springer says:

I hate the way that the recruiting process has changed into a form of that most disgusting show on TV “The Bachelor”. Everyone lined up for these high school kids, hanging on their every word. They get the biggest heads from this process. He may be a great player, but these recruiting services have bred a very unhealthy attitude amoungst teenagers. TV money corrupts everything it touches.

  2. Cory says:

Nebraska needs to get better offensive lineman first to protect these QB’s. A good place to start is to get rid of Barney Cotton.

  3. Gene O says:

It’s obvious Beck wants a QB he doesn’t have to “adjust” the offense for. Martinez’s window is this year. Either he starts to consistently deliver passes, or the coaches are going to have to move on to the next in line. Experience or not, T-Mart’s performance flattened out last year. Hot and cold passing loses games. And his running hasn’t exactly been terrorizing anyone. Pelini’s giving him one last chance this year, but Taylor’s on the clock. Beck and Pelini can’t afford to let the program go down with him if he doesn’t deliver.

    • Kirch13 says:

Yes Martinez was up and down but lets not forget that after the Wisconsin game in the next 6 games he completed over 60% of his passes and only threw 1 int…..and that is with the ton of drops….yes he has ugly form but I would argue the games we lost def. were not solely on him….Wisconsin Beck def. never should have called 15 out of 16 plays in a row passing plays leading to 3 ints and a huge deficit….we were right there with them before that…..Against NW Martinez lit them up passing the ball, playing very well….the problem was defense and turnovers………Against Michigan the problem was def. defense and turnovers by the special teams……against SC def. was turnovers again that did us in and consistently throughout the year a lot of dumb penalties by the line…..we need to clean up our turnover issue if we truly are going to take the next step

      • Gene O says:

Yes, they have other areas they need to work on, no doubt. But they have to have a QB they can rely on every game. If TM plays like he did in the 6 games you mentioned, the Huskers have a chance to win the B1G. But they play 12 games. Granted, Beck needs to sharpen his play calling; but there were way too many times wide open receivers were missed last year. I’m hoping for Martinez to become more consistent. It will make a difference next year.

        • KSU student w/red blood says:

Gene, teach me the ways of the Italicized letters… It will be my new sarcasm button… :)
          GBR from the Little Apple

      • wooper says:

Couple of things, while you can say what you want about the 15 passes there was WR’s open meaning some of the blame must be on Taylor. Also i belive that the reason that the int. went down was because Beck was asking Martinez to do less(passing) and let Rex run the ball more. Also Northwestern had a terrible passing D just like OSU had a terrible passing defense (and run defense) last year. Still a nebraska lover though and i want us playing whoever gives us the best chance to win. GBR!!!!!

        • Husker Holk says:

Point of order Wooper, I recently watched my recording of tOSU game and tOSU defense was ranked 8th in the COUNTRY at the time of that game. They shut us down the whole 1st half. Beck made some adjustments in the blocking scheme and started using the diamond formation and the rest was the greatest comeback in Husker history. GO BIG RED!

          • MikeG says:

While that sounds great it is a little misleading. OSU’s defense got very tired because they had no QB after Miller got hurt. If MIller would have stayed in, we would likely not have come back at all. Their offense went 3 and out every drive so their defense was on the field constantly, thats why we were able to finally move the ball around. Beck may have changed a few things up but it was not the reason for our comeback, sorry.

      • Scrybe T says:

It’s time to give Carnes a chance. He obviously has a better release and throwing motion and he has the genes. No more excuses, we obviously aren’t winning any title going with Martinez 100% so at least give him a shot. I’m not saying bench Martinez but if the race was that close give both guys a chance on the field. No more favoritism

    • Charley says:

I hope your analysis is right, but it remains to be seen what the coaching staff as in mind.

  4. Rickenaz says:

I’m not on the get rid of Barney wagon. We’ve gotten a bit better each season, but now we need to see the mistakes of the veterans evaporate. If we have that, we will do better in moving the ball. With better receivers we will drop fewer balls and that will open up the offensive rush even more. I might listen to the bad press about Barney more if we continue to see guys jumping off sides. Other than that, I don’t see any truth to the complaints. We are just going to have to wait and see how well we move the ball. I’m thinking that if we move the ball effectly than the complaints will evaporate too.

    • Baltar says:

If you “don’t see any truth to the complaints,” then you are not watching the games. Burkhead evades and breaks tackles on every play but ends up with an average of 3 yards per run. Why? There are no holes. Wake up!

      • Mosier says:

More like 4.5 YPC. The line performed admirably with all the youth and injuries this year. The line will continue to improve and will be top notch in 2 years and beyond.

    • Joe in L-town says:

How many all conference and all american does Barney produce? ZERO

That’s not going to cut it on any level.

      • Mosier says:

How many did Cally produce? Zero? The talent is coming. Henry was all-conference last year and Long this year.

        • Husker Holk says:

I agree Mosier. Coaching a walkon (Long) up to second team all-conference is a good indicater of the teaching our boys are receiving! We’re getting there, so….GO BIG RED!

  5. NUCORNDEVIL says:

Yeah, its all Barney Cottons fault, too bad Pelini isnt is to stupid to see it, trust me, when Beck gets a QB who can throw, say goodbye to the running game, he will throw it 98% of the time.

    • Kirch13 says:

bahahaha you are not very smart

      • Thank you says:

Best post ever, Kirch. I wonder if OWH can auto populate your reply every time NUCORNDEVIL posts something?

        • UDontKnowFootball says:

i second this, I know ten years olds who know more about football than Corndevil.

          • KSU student w/red blood says:

I won’t jump on the Fire Barney OR Bo bandwagon,
but this “Fire NUCORNDEVIL” bandwagon looks more and more enticing by the comment!

          • tom says:

And 9 year old that know more than Pelini. LOL just kidding but it is funny sounding

    • Husker Holk says:

Make up your mind corn holer, is it isn’t or is? Based upon your posts, I’d be REAL careful about calling other people stupid, especially someone who’s making 3 million a year.

  6. HuskerRebel says:

Except for a few shot-putt type long passes where one of our
receivers just happened to get under it, when did you see
Martinez throw to a receiver on the run, and he break it for
a long run. What you saw were short to medium passes to a
receiver standing still, and taking a few steps before he gets
hit. How in the world did a guy with one year as QB in HS,
end up as our starting QB? Sounds like our former OC convinced
our Head Coach that’s the way to go.

    • Mosier says:

Marinez was a QB for more than one year and had huge passing numbers as a senior to earn California offensive player of the year.

      • Ryan says:

He definintely had huge numbers as a senior in HS. Watch his senior year highlight reel on Youtube. You’ll notice that his WR’s in HS were lightyears ahead of anything we’ve had to give him so far here at Nebraska. That should change this year, as who we have coming back (including Turner) were fairly solid as youngsters. We may not see a change in Tayor’s throwing motion, but, like his teammates say, he puts the ball in catchable situations more often than not and they need to catch it. They know it’s on them more than it’s on Taylor, and I’ll second that all day, despite what folks like NUCORNDEVIL say…

  7. Cory says:

When was the last time NU had a dominant O-line under Cotton?? I miss the “Pipeline” days.

  8. MLK47 says:

So the Corn hole is a Buff fan, that explains everything
    Keep bringing it weakling

  9. MLK47 says:

    Gene O u are 100% dead on

  10. Lyle says:

You gotta love all these quality dual-threat QB prospects (like Zaire and Armstrong) as well as Fife from G.I. wanting to come in and compete with Martinez, Carnes, Marsh and Broekemeier. They all obviously have some talent and a lot of moxie to want to compete for the position against all the others already vying for the position and playing time. This could be a lot of fun for fans if the coaches truly make it a fair and open competition to let the best player take the field. I truly hope we see more than one starting quarterback this year just to help evaluate the potential of the players and of our talented receivers and tight-ends.

  11. huskermike says:

I do wonder why Martinez has been allowed to be at QB…Carnes or Armstrong seem to be a much better fit. I think that even if we have a throwing quarterback that Beck will still be a 60/40 run pass guy. Our strength has always been running the ball and that to set up the pass.

    • Charley says:

Well maybe because Armstrong hasn’t yet arrived on campus, and hasn’t been available to play over Martinez.

      • Mike in DM says:

Charley, thanks for being a voice of reason. Armstrong is our answer and he hasn’t finished high school yet. Other than burning his redshirt by taking snaps in the 4th quarter against Arkansas State, he won’t see the field this year.

    • Mosier says:

I just don’t understand what makes people think Carnes is better than T-Mart. While I hope the best for Carnes, and the kid is a winner, he kind of fell into our laps at the end of a recruiting cycle and I’m not sure that he was really priority #1 for the staff. However sense they are keeping Turner at WR it seems Carnes has shown enough. I would be shocked if T-Mart isn’t the starter all year and ends up having a very good season. He looked more explosive in the bowl game than he did all year. Maybe his injuries will be fully healed by next year.

      • Mike Caramba says:

This comment is way too reasonable. We all know Carnes is the answer because we know nothing about him, so we can project whatever qualities we want.

        • Mike Caramba says:

Oh wait, there were those snaps he got against the third-string D in the Spring Game.

        • n0 on3 says:

Carnes shares some of his DNA with the great T Fraz, so he must be the second coming. However, the coaches aren’t giving anyone a fair shot at QB because they promised it to T Mart so he wouldn’t transfer / Taylor’s dad has something on Pelini / [Insert another lame excuse these armchair coaches come up with].

  12. Joe in L-town says:

Cotton has never produced an All-American lineman. Not even a 1st team all conference lineman. He continually plays the same 5 guys, even if they are injured or ineffective. He hasn’t developed any depth despite the need for at least 8 – 10 guys over the long season. He trashed both Moore’s (2011) and Rodriguez (2010) freshmen seasons for limited playing time. If you feel the need to burn the redshirt year, get them meaningful snaps. Not play a few games early, sit on the bench the next 7, and then expect them to be effective late in the season. Starting two walk-ons on the line also shows piss poor development of the so called recruited talent. Can he identify and develop playmakers? Or does he just hope some walk-ons will fall into his lap to fill the gaps? Doesn’t make sense. He uses the young team and injury excuse too much after being in the program since 2008. How can you also explain the mental errors of false starts by seniors? The matador blocking technique? So many times you would see an OL all by himself on a run play watching. What happened to taking out one guy, then moving to the next level to hit a LB or safety? Doesn’t happen anymore. It’s been 100% his line for two years now. Same results, his guys can’t handle a strong defensive front. Rex can sneak in for 2-3 yards on his own, but should be getting 5 per carry easy.

Sorry Sam, you are way off base here on Cotton. Look at the facts, not selectively picking 4 spots at different times in games to say the OL is not the weak link. NU has talent. But needs a coach to bring it out. Cotton has failed miserably and not shown any improvement. Except for getting his boys schollies….the last one was a complete waste, he is walk-on material only.

    • Colorado Springer says:

If anyone is off base, its you. You have right to your opinion on coaches. They get paid well for what they do, and they have to produce. It goes with the territory. However, you comments about the Cotton boys are are despicable and low class. It is always difficult for a coach to coach his children as the fanatics will always believe the worst. Usually people will think that a coach will play favorites with his kid when the opposite is usually true. They always have to be better than everyone else in the coach’s eyes. Though it is a dream to coach your kid, it is usually difficult bcause the haters in the stands will try their best to make life miserable for the coach and his son or daughter. The Cottons have been good players for Nebraska and I think that the best player on the best high school team in Nebraska probably deserves a scholarship.

      • Mosier says:

Yes Joe just regurgitate your gut feelings. Don’t worry about evaluating how the season actually went, how the line has been recruited the last few years, legitamate injuries that happen etc. Moore started four games, if Jones wasn’t able to come back he would have started the whole year and as we know with Jones that was a big IF.

We we’re 16th in the country in rushing this year and Burkhead averaged the 5 yards a carry you say would be good. The line is improving every year and should be a huge strength when Pelini’s first full class are seniors in 2 years.

Barney hasn’t proven to be the next Milt yet but he does deserve more time.

Ben is a stud, Jake was battling for a starting spot as a Freshman and Sam was recruited at a huge position of need after we our top targets had signed elsewhere. Questioning his kids is shameful.

  13. Roger says:

Just what we need more passing……when is this staff going to learn????? In every game we tried to feature the pass we lost. We were at our best when we were RUNNING and using play action. Why is this so difficult to figure out?

  14. florida jim says:

the true N U problems are dropped passes , poor O-line blocking , and no cadence synch . does all this fall on barney cotton ? alot does . but , who is completely sold on mr beck ‘s play calling ? who is completely sold on coach bo ‘s defense continuity ? example : the unorthodox defense line play was highly successful against M STATE—-WE NEVER SAW IT AGAIN ! seems when certain plays are working well , we abandon them . i truely believe we have as much talent as most , but utilization of them is amiss . maybe we need to stop the good-ol-boy hiring of coaches from ” home ” and move toward qualifications instead . does anyone believe the replacement of coach sanders is an improvement ? or our current receivers coach an improvement over coach brown ? on the other hand,,the running backs performance has greatly improved since coach brown took over . alot can be said for hiring a coach who is a proven leader the Nebraska way , who bleeds N red , who starred under one of the greatest coaches and systems ever . what ever it takes,,,,get Scott Frost in the fold and use what worked before . sounds too simple ? not really but it ‘s proven .

    • Joe in L-town says:

Get Scott Frost in the fold? Why? Do former players automatically equal success? It’s not that simple and I wish some fans would pull their heads out and actually look at things objectively.

Your next idea is probably have Erik Strickland coaching bball. Also, since Grant Wistrom bleeds red we should probably fire the defensive staff and let him and the Peter brothers take over. That would automatically bring home championships? Not even close.

      • Baltar says:

Joe, I guess you don’t pay any attention to what’s going on in college football. Scott Frost has been a very successful receivers coach at Oregon, the top offense in the country for a few years now.
He would probably make a very good offensive coordinator for Nebraska. It’s possible that he would have taken that position when Watson left, but Pelini, in his “loyalty” mode, promoted Brown instead.

        • Ryan says:

Just because he is a good WR coach, doesn’t paint him as an automatic Gem at Offensive Coordinator. And Beck was promoted to OC, not Brown…smdh…

I echo Joe here…while Scott Frost MAY turn into a good OC, it’s not a given just because he’s “a legend” and shouldn’t be considered a savior to something that technically isn’t broken.

    • Mosier says:

First you don’t want guys from home, then you recommend Frost? (would love to have Frost by the way)
I think coach Fischer is a huge improvemet over Gilmore. (and Beck over Watson)
Sanders (a “home” coach) is maybe the best secondary coach in the country, I want to give Raymond time but no he wasn’t an improvement, nobody would have been.
Brown wasn’t promoted, he was moved.

      • KSU student w/red blood says:

Man I hope Brown is with us for LIFE, not that I doubt he wont…
The guy is a class act who develops Men, not players.

  15. ohiohusker says:

The O-line played pretty well this year. Teams loaded the box and we still ran it. Progess is being made.

    • Joe in L-town says:

      Bullcrap. Go re-watch the games

    • Mosier says:

Agree. I was very impressed with how the O-Line knocked a “great SEC defense” off the ball in the first half in the bowl game. If it weren’t for a couple huge D lapses we would have been up and wouldn’t have had to start chucking the ball downfield. That’s when the O problems started.

      • MikeG says:

I agree, I think our oline did ok this year, they had ups and downs like the rest of the team did but they were not the problem. I think TM showed a little too much indecision this year and made some bad decisions. Our main problem was the dline and our defensive scheme not prepared for running QB’s very well. I still dont think TM is our answer at QB, he just doesnt seem to have the poise he needs when he is pressured and his running is a fraction of what we saw the year before. I would like to see someone else get a legit shot to see if we could create an offensive spark.

  16. Mosier says:

Urban at OSU may really hurt us. I think one of the big reasons we moved back to spread/option style was to be able to get the top dual threat QB’s. It seemed we were never going to get the top passing QB’s away from Texas, OU etc. Now with Urban at OSU running basically our same offense I would imagine he will be able to get the higher rated guys (especially from Ohio).

Luckily it looks like there are quite a few really good DQBs out there this year that we are in on. Swoopes to UT helps with Barret.

  17. mac says:

Is Barney really that bad of a coach? That’s the question Bo needs to answer decisively. Here are a few reasons to question his ability…and thus Bo’s decision-making that keeps him in place. It seems that we’ve heard over and over that the reason we’re underperforming on the 0-line is a plague of injuries, making it very difficult to achieve continuity. How many years does this excuse continue to fly since we’ve been hearing it for as long as Barney has been here? Why are not able to develop a pipeline of talent…especially since we’re repeatedly told how optimistic the coaching staff is regarding the sense that the 0-line could be the strength of the team “this year.” Maybe the problem is recruiting and the availability of scholarships…since it seems we’re not very deep at any position? So, who’se in charge of recruiting o-linemen? Or, maybe we’re doing the best we can now that we’re just a middle of the pack prize when it comes to where top flight guys want to play. Or maybe he’s a great coach with a ton of injuries that can’t be overcome until he has a healthy crew?

    • Mosier says:

Again, Cally left this years o-line with exactly 2 fourth or fifth year lineman. Marcel Jones, LT-hon. men all-conference and Thompson (non-contributor).

I don’t know how you can expect the line to be great with that and then all the injuries on top of that.

The line this year was actually supposed to be the weakest link of this years team, (don’t know where your getting strength of the team remarks) and played pretty well.

Now that It is Pelini’s team a shift to focus on the O-line in recruiting has emerged and we have brought in a lot of good talent the last couple years. The o-line should be very good in two years, as Pelini’s first class reaches their senior years.

I usually can’t read posts without people toting that out and patting themselves on the back for being the most knowledgeable and/or classy.

  20. HskrBll says:

Okay,..all you Barny, Bo, et al bashers,…. let’s refocus and talk about the insightful article that Sam wrote……Once this kid (who appears to be very humble) sees the new basketball practice facility and arena construction (Runzas notwithstanding), he’s a definite lock…..

    • public hair says:

We need to flood the kid’s mailbox with 105 runzas so he knows we want him.

      • HskrBll says:

Runzas can be powerful things!! Instead of gangng up on the O-Line, we should be ganing up on the O-Rings! Oh Yeah! And oh, BTW – Recruiters need to schedule this kid into a Misty’s blackened filet (Med Rare)…shut the F…..ront door!

  21. BetterRED says:

    robust rob,
although I agree with some people probably not knowing what is going on in the program, you post is absolutely stupid because you fail to make any sense or fail to give an sort of intelligent comments.

injuries on the O line are a lame excuse! If injuries are the case, why are there so many walk on consistently playing/starting on the o line? Caputo (former walk on), Long (starter and walk on), Choi (starter in some games and walk on). That is 3 out of the 5 linemen being walk ons. That is simply failed recruiting by BO and staff, period!

    • Mosier says:

Long and Choi got starts because/partially due to injuries to Rodriguez, Qvale, J. Cotton, Reeves, and Thompson. So your kinda making the opposite point. Caputo is starting b/c everyone could see he was rock solid when he was the top back up to Byford for 2 years. Cap and Long both got all league recognition, I just thank God we have such good walk-ons.

I see it as more failed recruiting by Cally as there were only 2 fourth or fifth (cally classes) year players this year. O-line more than any other position takes time to build, improvement is continuing and the line will be great in 2 years.

      • BetterRED says:

If they would have recruited better they would have had scholarship athletes to back up, even with the injuries. Pelini is coming upon year 5 so it is really hard to blame Callahan for injuries to the line in year 4, nice try though. Choi was not playing at guard because of injuries but more because he was a better run blocker than A rod. My question is this, where are all the linemen Pelini has been recruiting? He played T. Moore and A Rod who are underclassemen, where are all the others he has recruiting. Pelini may figure it out but recruiting is severely lacking with the Bo pelini staff. I am not talking even about the stars they bring in but the management rather.

You realize A Rod and Moore are 1st and 2nd year players right.

My point is that OL should be made up of fourth and fifth year players (Callahans last 2 classes) and unfortunately this year we only had to of those guys. It really hurts the depth your talking about when Cally only has 2 representatives at OL in 2 classes. Can you imagine if Pelini recruited one OLmen this year and One next year? There would rightly be outrage.

Just look at next year. We will have one senior on the entire line. This was Callahan’s last class at NU. The very next year we will have 5 plus walk-ons Spencer Long, Criss, and a couple more. Pelini restocked the O-line as fast as he could. His first class wasn’t great but at least he tried bringing in 6 guys. Last year he nailed it with probably the best O-line class in the country.

Like I said the O-line is on the way up.

Callahan brought in 6 guys in 2007 and 3 in 2008 on scholarship. 1 was lost to medical hardship in Javorio Burkes. Pelini has had plenty of years to have redshirt Juniors and seniors playing up until now INSTEAD of underclassmen in A ROD and T MOORE which is my point exactly. A Rod this past season was in his second year (Bo’s 4 year) and T Moore was in his first year (Bo’s 4th year). Looks like Bo had 2 additional years to secure some linemen who would come in and contribute. My point is… Bo had his freshman and Sophmores play but if he would have recruited better, he could have had Juniors and Seniors, WHICH IS NOT entirely Callahans fault.

          • Mosier says:

Sorry, I’ve looked at the numbers over and over. With a month left to recruit in 08 Pelini simply held on to Cally’s 3 OL recruits. 2 are were busts and Stein HAD to be moved to DT b/c there was absolutely no depth there. The next year he brought in SIX OL guys. THe fact that Pelini guys like Sirles, Hardrick, Henry, Long, Moore, Rodriguez have already had so many starts is just further proof of how little depth there was at o-line when Pelini got here.

He had to fix a completely broken D when he got here. After he shored up a little depth there he got busy with the o-line and we are/will see the fruits of that shortly.

You make it sound like the line last year was horrible, but it was probably our best since the early 2000′s.

Actually, robust robs post made the most sense of all on this topic (if you know what I mean) and I know some of you do, since you know it all. lulz

I don’t want to bash anyone, and y’all are right to question the legitimacy of anyone commenting about things they can’t possibly know, but…as worthless as my opinions and questions might be, they actually do reflect a sizable contingent of long standing fans whose sentiments are based on visible on-field performance, including any number of beatdowns by better teams than us that weren’t all that great. Like so many I long for the day that we return to top tier competitiveness. Bo has had five years. Is the team getting better compared to the competition? If so who are we better than? OSU, Wisc? MICH? 1/2 of the SEC? VATECH? USC? ORE? TX?, OU? OKST? FSU? CLEM? MIA? BOISE? Maybe we’re ready to take the next step and get back in it. Hope so.

Your thoughts and juxtapositions do not relect my views. I would suppose you do not represent the silent Husker majority.

Boise is a talented team. Schedule sucks but they are consitantly well coached and play tough. Give them a little credit. I would sure love to see our Huskers play them.

        • BetterRED says:

Boise St. would give the Huskers everything they wanted and more. In fact Boise St. makes it living on capitalizing on other peoples mistakes which doesnt bode well for Nebraska…. Boise would come out with a victory, sorry to say. Bo and Nebraska need to clean up all the darn mistakes, its getting old.

          • Colorado Springer says:

Yes Boise St would be hard to handle. But the next week they would have to handle Ohio St. And then Michigan. And then Wisconsin. And then Michigan St. And then Penn St. Do you think they would walk through that schedule? Boise St plays a schedule that is easier than Nebraska’s when they were in the Big XII. And then they stumble over Nevada or UNLV. The weakes B1G team that Nebraska played this year was Minnesota, and they beat Iowa and played USC within 2 points. Nebraska played TEN bowl teams this year. You people need to get real.

I Bo-leave our staff will make a great dback, 2nd string wide reciever or bench warmer backup qb out of him. Just kidding!!! I think he would be a great pickup and looks to have the tools to challenge his first year!!

    • tom says:

Burn the Redshirt, play 2 snaps in mopup, switch to receiver, play 2 snaps in mopup, get disgruntled, transfer to Tulsatuky. The 4* QB Husker way!

I think Beck needs to move TM to a wide out and get a better passing/running QB
