The BCS folks — 11 conference commissioners and Notre Dame’s emissary — wrapped up their meetings in Dallas Wednesday, releasing a statement about as chewy and undercooked as half-done fried chicken.
“In an effort to grow college football’s great popularity and success, we just completed two days of productive meetings in Dallas, Texas.
We have until the fall of this year to finalize any possible changes to our current structure. That’s when contractual obligations require us to begin negotiations with our television carrier for future coverage decisions. We have a self-imposed deadline of sometime this summer to decide what changes we will propose to our governing bodies for football’s post-season. It’s still early in our process and we will continue to meet with our conferences and review options.
Whatever we do, we want to protect college football’s regular season which is the best and most meaningful in sports. We want to preserve the great bowl tradition while making it better and more attractive. We also have heard the message about playing bowl games closer to or on January 1, the way it used to be.
As we proceed, we will evaluate the many pros and cons of numerous possible changes. Every idea has exciting up sides, as well as complicated consequences. From the realities of the calendar to the issues presented in terms of venues such as who hosts games, we have tremendous responsibilities and opportunities.
The bottom line is we will continue to talk about how to make a great sport even better for student-athletes, fans and everyone who loves college football.”

Where oh where is Mac Jones ?
Yea, I really love reading stuff that makes no sense.
He got deported !!! Yeah INS busted him and shipped him out of the country ( Council Bluffs )
@ least they are meeting
“Most meaningful regualr season in all of sport”? Are you kidding me!!! 3 games against inferior teams and the teams with the better records go to inferior Bowl Games!
Its simple D1 greedy men. 10 games regular conference schedule, no cupcake games, top 20 go to playoffs. Higher seed gets home games. Neutral site championship game. Sound familiar? It is, that’s what every NCAA division does.
Get it done, stop the greed and play the games the fans want to see. That’s what its about!
It is the most meaningful regular season in sports. At most 1 slip up is allowed. You cluck about stopping the greed and so on but fail to realize or admit that but for the “greed’ you wouldn’t be watching your favorite team on TV every weekend. If you really dislike greed in sports then go watch NAIA.
I do watch NAIA, and they have a playoff, they don’t play local YMCA on their schedules either.
I love Nebraska Football!! But it is boring, to see them play Tenn-Chat and now Idaho St and it does not prepare them for big games. Especially when they runup the score and play backups with 2mins remaining in the 4th Qtr. Then listen to idiots brag about the score.
So yes the cupcake games are meaningful now in the BCS (BS) system, but isn’t this article about change!!!?
If you think its not the most meaningful in all of sports, then please explain why it has the highest attendance of any sport except NASCAR(considering there are usually only 2 races at each locations, there’s an easy explanation for NSACARs overwhelming attendance figures).
The point here is that a 20 team play off would eliminate the need to win all your games during the regular season. You could very easily see 4 loss teams in a play off that that big(75% winning record will get you to the dance in major conferences in basketball). Which means, instead of the top 25 games meaning the most on your schedule, its the must win verse lesser teams that really matter because one loss to Alabama is no big deal. Who wants to see Nebraska vs The Sisters… err I mean a lesser quality team as more important than its game against Michigan?
I’m all for a plus one, but thats it. Beyond that, my only wish is that they’d eliminate the junk bowls. Cut that number down to 20 and increase the number of required wins to 7.
Any more talk of NASCAR and college football in the same thought and you will be hunted down and deposited into a vat of drunken rednecks.
I say we first eliminate all college sports other than football. Take the top 52 traditional powers and play a round-robin 52 game schedule. When the season ends, have the Pope, Billy Graham and Rick Santorem cast their votes and declare who is National Champ!
Sounds like the perfect plan as long as all games will be played south of the Mason -Dixon line. SOUTHEAST CONFERENCE COACHES
Protect college football’s regular season?
Answer: Must win Conference Title to be in Playoff
Where do you have the game?
Answer: Highest seed hosts game – The SEC needs suck it up. Football is a sport for real men! Playing in the cold is part of the game! Not every advantage should go to the SEC.
How hard is this. Look at the NCAA’s own website. FBS, FCS, DIV II, DIV III. Only the FBS has no playoffs. This is so old!!!!!
Leave it to a bunch of administrators and lawyers to meet for two days, then come out and say ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
There’s obviously a lot going on behind closed doors that we will never hear about it. These guys (college officials) should be in Congress. This is all about money and control. They have a good deal going and don’t want to mess it up. Greed is most definitely the driving force here. Start with the pigs running the bowl games and work your way down. Just like our government, the open market does not drive this deal. These guys are going to keep lining their pockets and the fans be damned. They are not going to kill the golden goose just to satisfy what the overwhelming majority of fans have been screaming for for decades.
