World-Herald Sports Omaha World-Herald

After six seasons as the associate head coach of the Bluejay baseball team, Rob Smith has been named the ninth head coach at Ohio University. Smith will be formally announced into the Bobcats program in a 2:00 p.m. Tuesday press conference.

This head coaching position will mark the Indiana native’s first job at the helm of a program, as he has served as the associate head coach at Creighton, the pitching coach at Purdue, as well as, a volunteer assistant at Purdue.

Smith developed the Creighton pitching staff into one of the top programs in the nation, holding a combined 3.88 ERA in his six seasons, a number that sits 19th in the country in that time span.

“I am so excited to lead the Ohio University baseball program,” Smith told ohiobobcats.com. “I am so grateful to Jim Schaus (Ohio University Director of Athletics) for this opportunity. I believe there is a lot of potential with the baseball program at Ohio and I look forward to continuing the tradition that has been put in place.”
