Hey, Omahans, when you see Gainesville (Fla.) Sun columnist Pat Dooley this week, treat him like one of our own.
That’s because he is after the amount of time he has spent in our fair city the past year.
“I think I should be able to vote,” Dooley said Thursday from the College World Series press box.
No argument here.
The 25-year columnist covered the CWS last year, tracking Florida. The Gators reached the championship round, meaning Dooley spent 14 days last June in Omaha, covering five games and staying in three hotels.
In March, guess who got assigned to the second-round NCAA basketball tournament site in Omaha? Florida. So Dooley was back for six days, but just one hotel that time.
Now, Florida is in Omaha for more baseball, and so is Dooley.
“It’s a minimum of seven days and a maximum of 15 this time,” he said.
Sounds to me like enough time in Omaha over one year to establish residency. Just remember, Pat, to pay your taxes, too.
Welcome back.
