You don’t normally see fans filing out of a ballpark with the game headed for extra innings. But it’s past 11 p.m. here at TD Ameritrade Park, and this year’s College World Series is just getting started.
Florida State and Arizona are into the 10th inning now, tied at 3-3. Less than half of the 22,391 fans who once packed inside the venue Friday night still remain in their seats to see how this one will end.
The finish will likely be worth the wait. Both teams have played well up to this point.
The key moment so far came in the sixth inning: Arizona held a 3-1 lead going in. A throw from third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean pulled first baseman Jose Dixon off the bag. (Replays showed Dixon might have kept his foot on the base just long enough. Close call.) … Anyway, after two Seminoles struck out and another one walked, designated hitter John Holland tied the game at 3-3 with a two-run double to left field.
