On Tap: Stony Brook vs. Florida State, Game 5
Steven Pivovar Omaha World-Herald

A capsule look at the fifth game of the College World Series, set for a 4 p.m. start on Sunday.

STONY BROOK (52-14)
>> Pitcher: RH Brandon McNitt (8-3, 2.50 ERA)
>> Top hitters: CF Travis Jankowski (.416, 5 HRs, 46 RBIs), 3B Willie Carmona (.393, 12 HRs, 72 RBIs), 2B Maxx Tissenbaum (.391, 3 HRs, 51 RBIs)
>> Trends: Stony Brook has not lost two games in a row since March, when Holy Cross swept a doubleheader against the Seawolves.
>> Stony Brook will win if: See above note. The Seawolves have shown tremendous resiliency this season. The beatdown UCLA supplied Friday was humbling, but the defeat isn’t as difficult to stomach as the loss Stony Brook took in the opening game of the super regional at Louisiana State. The Seawolves bounced back to post 3-1 and 7-2 wins that sent them to Omaha.

FLORIDA STATE (48-16)
>> Pitcher: RH Mike Compton (11-2, 2.86 ERA)
>> Top hitters: CF James Ramsey (.382, 13 HRs, 57 RBIs), 1B Jayce Boyd (.381, 4 HRs, 59 RBIs), 2B Devon Travis (.310, 7 HRs, 40 RBIs)
>> Trends: This is the first meeting between the teams, and the Seminoles have fared well in first meetings. Florida State is 180-47 (.793) the first time it has played a team.
>> Florida State will win if: Compton pitches like the freshman All-American that he is. His 11 wins are the most by a freshman this season.
