Nebraska’s first Big Red Weekend summer recruiting event has paid immediate dividends.

Sioux Falls (S.D.) Washington athlete Nathan Gerry became NU’s 10th commitment for the 2013 class. Gerry, a three-star wide receiver/safety according to 247Sports, confirmed his commitment to Huskers Illustrated, a recruiting partner with the World-Herald.

A 6-foot-2, 206-pounder, Gerry will play safety for the Huskers. He’s the seventh defensive player to commit to Nebraska for the 2013 class and picked Nebraska over offers from Iowa and Michigan State. He had offers from Arizona State, Iowa State and Minnesota, too. He finished 2011 with 37 catches for 647 yards and eight touchdowns on offense. On defense, he had 73 tackles and two sacks.

The Big Red Weekend hosted more than 20 recruits — for the 2013 and 2014 class — for a two-day tour of campus and the football facilities.
