Recruiting: Des Moines TE takes in Big Red Weekend

Nebraska already has its “adjuster” pass-catching tight end for the 2013 recruiting class in Greg Hart. It’s hotly pursuing top junior college target Beau Sandland. It’s keeping Omaha North fast-riser Casey Sayles in mind.

And then there’s Jon Wisnieski — the Des Moines Dowling Catholic tight end who NU offered months ago. He attended Big Red Weekend, and still has the Huskers in the mix after bonding with current players.

“The one thing that was really different about it was later on we ate dinner with all the players and got to do some fun stuff with them and just kind of interact,” Wisnieski said. “That made all the difference. I’d never gotten to see that at any other program before, so that was cool. They did a player panel too, a little Q&A with just the parents and the recruits.”

Hart, who also made the trip, tried to sell Wisnieski hard on Nebraska, too. But he didn’t commit, and probably won’t commit to any school before the football season. Before then, Wisnieski will take a West Coast trip to try and earn scholarships from Oregon and Stanford.

“I’ve been talking a little with Oregon and both Oregon and Stanford visited school toward the end of the year and they were encouraging me to get out to camp, and I’ve never seen that part of the country before so I wanted to get out there,” he said.
