Recruiting: JUCO DT likes NU visit

Nebraska has plenty of young recruits at the defensive tackle spots, so Husker coaches must presumably see something special in Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College defensive tackle Toby Johnson. NU’s tried three different times to get him on campus. The third time — Friday — he actually visited, and like what he saw.

“Nebraska made a jump,” he told Huskers Illustrated, a recruiting partner with The World-Herald. “Nebraska and Husker fans really stood out to me. It was impressive.”

The 6-foot-4, 310-pounder talked at length with coach Bo Pelini. Among the subjects: How Johnson’s game is similar to that of former Husker and multiple-award winner Ndamukong Suh. Johnson has a slew of offers, but seems to hold NU, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Arkansas and USC in highest regard.
