No. 10 BOONE CENTRAL/NEWMAN GROVE

NOTE: Boone Central combines with Newman Grove and will play in Class C-1, District 5 this season.

COACH: Arnold Johnson, 24th season

PLAYER TO WATCH: Mazour. The quarterback has thrown for over 1,000 yards each of the past two seasons. He was an all-district selection a year ago, when he rushed for 409 yards and threw for 1,250.

COACH’S QUOTE: “We feel we have less holes to fill this year. We have players offensively that will be able to make plays in our running and passing game.”

RETURNING STARTERS: Tyler Schmid, senior, O/DL; Pete Danielson, senior, WR/DB; Wyatt Kastl, junior, FB/LB; Austin Havlena, senior, RB/DB; Brody Hoeft, junior, O/DL; Kurt Veskrna, senior, RB/DE; Mitch Sander, junior, RB/LB

PLAYER TO WATCH: Kastl. After starting at middle linebacker and fullback as a sophomore, the junior will lead the Scouts this year alongside seniors Havlena and Veskrna.

COACH’S QUOTE: “We just know that if we play hard, good things will eventually come.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Eklund, who had four interceptions last season, and Brown, with 400 career rushing yards on his record, will lead the Badgers this year.

COACH’S QUOTE: “We’ve got some holes to fill and the kids to fill them, we just need to stay healthy and stay focused.”
