Recruiting: Zach Hannon commits to Nebraska
Sam McKewon Omaha World-Herald

Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst offensive lineman Zach Hannon Wednesday on Twitter announced his commitment to Nebraska over Missouri and Arkansas. The 6-foot-5, 300-pounder is a three-star prospect according to all major recruiting services. He’s projected as a guard in NU’s offense.

Hannon made several unofficial visits to Nebraska since the spring, including a trip with his family for Big Red Weekend.

He’s the second offensive lineman to commit to the 2013 class. The first is Plymouth (Ind.) guard Dan Samuelson.

Hannon’s former high school teammate, Michael Rose signed in 2012 with the Huskers and plays linebacker.

  1. Skers says:

Rivals has him as the 18th best OG. Besides Arkansas has offers from Missouri, Kansas, Kansas St, Colorado and several others.

  2. Ft. Worth Husker says:

Two years from now he’ll be 6’5″ and 325. Another big body that we needed. Keep em” coming.

    1. Trojan says:

My neighbor weights 325 but that doesnt mean he can play guard.

      1. TRUEHuskerFan says:

With as much time as you spend on other team’s sites, you too probably weigh 325. Lord knows you have no other life.

        1. TexasHusker says:

          Zing, zingy-zing-zing.

          Well done.

      2. VB Husker says:

How about 6’5″ and 450 pounds and is the WHOLE defensive line?

  3. Twauto22 says:

Me gusts! Great pick up! Welcome to Nebraska

  4. All other's look to 95 says:

315 is as big as you want. Must be mobile. You can be every bit as strong at 310-315 as you are at 325. But likely not as mobile at 325-330.

  5. HuskerNLawrence says:

Great get by our coaches! I thought the Big 12 was locking their cubbards from NU? Oops.

    1. Nick says:

Missouri is in the SEC now, but I know what you are saying.

  6. DReinmiller says:

Great kid. Great family. He will be an asset to the program.

Surpised the Huskers overcame the large family bias toward Mizzou. Go Big Red.

  7. Van Cleef says:

Excellent job Barney Cotton & John Garrison!!! Welcome Zach!!! You will get EXCELLENT coaching from these two and Bo!!!!!

  8. Van Cleef says:

    C’mon Jamone Boyd, you’re next!!!!!!

  9. redark says:

Connections in K.C. tell me this guy is for real and should be a 4 star at least— his dad must not kept up his payments to the recruiting services.

  10. PT Husker says:

Another guy from the Big weekend earlier this year. That deal works/

  11. Welcome Zach to the Husker Nation! You’ve made a wise choice in choosing Nebraska, our program has as much tradition as any in the world, we never forget any man who played for the Huskers, long after your school days are over, you will always be welcomed Home here at Nebraska!

  12. A Fan says:

    Nice pick-up for Nebraska.

  13. Bob says:

Great news. We need to keep that KC connection going! NU provides the Big Ten school opportunity just 3 hours away from the KC area. Hoohaw! This makes NU unique vis-a-vis MU (SEC) and KU, KSU (Big 12 – 2). I saw Rose play as a junior at Rockhurst. look fo great things from both. Solid players. My son-in-law is a Hawklet also. Might convert him to be a Husker fan yet. But he is a long time solid Chiefs fan, so he is primarily into pro football.

  14. Back Off says:

I know. I know. But it has to be said…

    Can he throw?

    1. Gene O says:

Wrong question. You should ask- “Can he BLOCK?”.

  15. Scott U says:

Happy to see nothing but positive comments!

    1. Van Cleef says:

Isn’t that amazing? All the haters must be having a difficult time putting a negative spin on this one!!!!

      1. Bryan says:

Hopefully, all of the negative nellies have explosive diarrhea for all of the foul things they’ve tried to feed us. A Great Get for the Huskers…. GO B1G RED!!!!

  16. Nate says:

All the supportive comments literally made me double check that I was reading the World-Herald. Sad.

  17. barney says:

Good kid. And we r all excited over a 3 star. It appears husker nation is ready to accept 4 losses every year and no BC bowl

    1. Jeff says:

How many 4+ star athletes did T.O. have???….hardly any. Dont take too much stock in stars. It also involves academics and character as well, not just talent.

      1. A Fan says:

T.O. had a lot of 4 star athletes on his teams. You gotta love revisionist history.

        1. An Actual Cornhusker Fan says:

OL Joel Wilks had no stars and started on the ’94 Pipeline team during the 1994 national title run.

          Couldn’t Tom recruit 4 stars?

          Couldn’t Milt recruit 4 stars?

Should Tom have fired Milt for “having to make due” with a walk-on?

    2. TexasHusker says:

      I mean, “Joey”,

      I mean “NUCORNDEVIL”,

You are desperately needed at the Colorado Buffaloes site, post haste!

      They NEED you.

      Sucks to be a Buffawoe!

      1. A Fan says:

Show some class and not your class.

        1. A Fan says:

Make that… and not your axx.

          1. TexasHusker says:

            My God, but you’re stupid.

          2. Van Cleef says:

Wow you really told him!!!! Where did you learn that? Second grade?

        2. An Actual Cornhusker Fan says:

          Woody Paige, is that you?

  18. Bluejays87 says:

Great news. Bring back the pipeline!
