Jordan Burroughs gets Gold
Sam McKewon Omaha World-Herald

With Nebraska wrestling coach Mark Manning coaching him matside, former Husker wrestler Jordan Burroughs made good on a yearlong promise that he’d win gold at the 2012 London Olympics, beating Iran’s Sadegh Goudarzi in the 74-kilogram (163+ pounds) final.

In preparation for the Olympics, Burroughs was unabashed in his desire to win gold, naming his Twitter handle @alliseeisgold in the process.

With the win, Burroughs has to be considered one of the best athletes in Husker history. Going undefeated in two different seasons with two national titles was impressive enough. But this international run cements it.

And it’s huge boost for Nebraska wrestling, too, as it continues the tough trek in the Big Ten.
