Rivalry doesn’t disappoint

When it comes to Metro Conference rivalries — no matter what sport — it’s tough to top Omaha Creighton Prep vs. Omaha Westside.

When those two schools get together, you just know it’s going to be a dogfight. That was the case once again Friday night as the teams got after it in the second game of the young football season.

The Warriors zipped to a 14-0 lead in less than two minutes but the Junior Jays battled back to hold a 35-30 advantage late in the game. Westside marched to the Prep 18 in the closing seconds but a Warriors fumble secured the win for the Junior Jays.

It was the second straight dramatic victory for Prep, which rallied from a 28-3 halftime deficit last week against Omaha Burke to win 31-28 in overtime. Westside also was coming off an upset win in Week 1 vs. Omaha Central.

This game really could have gone either way, so we’ll see where the teams go from here. The Junior Jays have the tougher schedule the next few weeks with games against No. 2 Millard North and No. 1 Lincoln Southeast.

Whether you cheer for Prep or Westside, it appears you’re in for a wild ride this season.
