With Billy Gillispie having resigned as head men’s basketball coach at Texas Tech, look for former Nebraska coach Doc Sadler to get heavy mention as a possible replacement for his good friend.
Sadler, now the director of operations at Kansas after six seasons at Nebraska, was an assistant coach at Texas Tech in the 1990s under James Dickey.
Sadler couldn’t be reached for comment Thursday night, but has mentioned in the past how he and his wife enjoyed their time in Lubbock, Texas.
Three Big 12 athletics administrators told me in the past week that they see Sadler as a candidate to become interim coach for this season and/or a permanent hire.
Two former members of Sadler’s Nebraska staff are on the Texas Tech staff. They are assistant coach Jeremy Cox and video coordinator Jim Shaw.
