Omaha Westside’s 42-25 win over second-ranked Millard South on Friday night proved the Warriors belong with the Class A elite this season.
Some may have had their doubts because Westside’s previous three wins came against teams that were a combined 2-13 heading into Friday night. But the Warriors played like a team with a chip on their shoulder, opening up a 28-0 lead and holding on for the victory.
Running back Lane Yates (220 rush yards, 98-yard kickoff return) and quarterback Jacob Koester (three TD passes) led the way, but others also deserve mention.
Linebacker Cody Cramer set the tone by intercepting a pass on the second play of the game. He also had three sacks and seemed to be in the Patriots backfield all night.
Tight end Craig Timmons caught a 6-yard TD pass to open the scoring and later blocked a field goal and an extra point.
Yates also made a point after the game to compliment his offensive line, which opened holes all night in the Millard South defense.
A dominating win for the Warriors, and one that certainly should silence their critics.
