Tom’s Takes: Ohio State 63, Nebraska 38

Rex up, then down: I feel bad for Rex Burkhead. Tough night. It looked like such a big night at the start. Rex’s 73-yard run in the first quarter jump-started NU’s offense and set up its first touchdown. Burkhead played quarterback and tossed to Ameer Abdullah on two goal-line touchdown runs. The 73-yarder looked like the signature run of Burkhead’s career. But then he left in the third quarter after he appeared to reinjure his left knee. It was a microcosm of how fast the Huskers’ night flipped.

Horseshoe impressive: Loved Ohio Stadium. It mixed classic old-school architecture with modern videos (minimal commercials). Urban Meyer told the fans to bring it and they did. Amazing noise. It appeared that the entire south stadium section fans were students. There was a pole with a giant American flag just behind the north end zone. Definitely the best Big Ten stadium I’ve seen. If it’s any consolation, Nebraska fans do a better wave.

There’s a bright side? Look at the bright side: The Legends Division is a mess and the Huskers are still right in the mix. Feel better? Didn’t think so.
