Mustangs on a mission

The fact Millard North is 8-0 and ranked No. 1 is impressive enough, but even moreso when you look at the Mustangs’ schedule.

Coach Fred Petito’s squad has defeated teams that all had winning records heading into Friday night’s action. The most recent conquest for Millard North came Friday night in a 34-10 road win over fourth-ranked Omaha Westside.

The ratings obviously change from week to week, but here are some other victories the Mustangs have posted this season (using the latest rankings):

– 38-28 over No. 3 Kearney

– 12-10 over No. 5 Millard South

– 24-3 over No. 7 Millard West

– 45-10 over No. 8 Omaha Burke

– 49-42 over No. 10 Papillion-La Vista

The other wins have come against Omaha Creighton Prep and Bellevue West, so no softies there.

Props to Petito and his squad, who will play No. 9 Omaha North next Friday night in their regular-season finale.
