The men’s soccer team at Creighton University is not selling magazine subscriptions around Omaha.
But a man in his 20s is going door to door, posing as a member of the team and asking people for a cash-only contribution with a promise of a subscription.
It’s a scam, and the man, who speaks in broken English, isn’t affiliated with Creighton, officials say.
Omaha police are aware of the matter, said Rob Anderson, Creighton’s sports information director. Most of the visits to homes have been in the Bemis Park area, around 38th Street, north of Cuming Street.
Anderson said that if people are motivated to give money to Creighton athletics, “we’d love to have it,” but he said the school holds fundraising events, not door-to-door sales drives.
People are advised to use caution if approached by the young man, to decline his sales offer and report the incident to police.
