Event of the Week: State-qualifying cross country meets
>> When: 3:30 and 4 p.m. Thursday
>> Where: Western Iowa teams will be at Atlantic and Ridge View in 1-A, Panorama and Ridge View in 2-A, Atlantic and Spencer in 3-A and Carroll Kuemper in 4-A.
>> Overview: The three top teams and top 10 individuals at each meet will advance to the state meet at the Lakeside Golf Course north of Fort Dodge on Oct. 27.
Schedule
>> Football: Logan-Magnolia (7-1, 6-0) at Griswold (6-2, 5-1), 7 p.m. Friday. The winner earns the top seed for the playoffs in District 8 of Class A. Griswold can also earn a share of the district title with a win.
>> Football: Shenandoah (4-4, 3-2) at Red Oak (2-6, 2-3), 7 p.m. Friday. Red Oak has never made the playoffs, while Shenandoah hasn’t qualified in 25 years. At least one team will get in this year — perhaps both.
>> Football: Sioux City East (7-1, 4-0) at West Des Moines Valley (6-2, 4-0), 7:30 p.m. Friday. The winner will claim the Division 1 title in 4-A.
>> Football: CB Lewis Central (6-2, 3-2) at Creston/Orient-Macksburg (7-1, 4-1), 7:30 p.m. Friday. Both teams are in the playoffs.

>> Zach Skibinski, Sioux City Heelan: Made a team-high eight tackles, including three sacks, as the Crusaders held Denison-Schleswig to zero rushing yards in a 53-7 win.
>> Sam Kroepel, Shenandoah: Carried 20 times for 234 yards and two touchdowns in a 36-14 win over Clarinda.
>> Shayne Wiese, IKM-Manning: Made six solo tackles and 19 assists as the Wolves limited Pocahontas Area to 210 total yards in a 29-13 win. He also ran for 77 yards and a score.
>> Josh Metheny, Griswold: Had a team-high 13 tackles as the Tigers held East Mills to 145 total yards in a 20-14 victory.
>> Nick Williams, Essex/South Page: Carried 15 times for 175 yards and three touchdowns, and returned a punt 69 yards for another score in a 49-0 Eight-Man win over Nishnabotna.
>> Drake Cohrs, Logan-Magnolia: The sophomore had 12 tackles as the Panthers held A-H-S-T to 180 total yards in a 49-3 win.
>> Clay Harris, Riverside: Carried 19 times for 110 yards in a 35-14 win over West Monona.
>> Caleb Oswald, Coon Rapids-Bayard: The senior had four sacks and six tackles for losses in a 14-tackle effort as the Crusaders held Charter Oak-Ute to 211 total yards in a 33-12 Eight-Man win.
>> Matthew Williamson, CAM: Had three tackles for losses among his seven tackles as the Cougars held Corning to 227 total yards in a 44-30 Eight-Man win.
>> Mason Sheldon, Sidney: Had nine solo tackles and two for losses among his 12 stops as the Cowboys held Stanton to 206 total yards in a 66-22 Eight-Man win.
VOLLEYBALL
>> Meagan Kerns, Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto: Had 17 kills with .343 efficiency as the Rams knocked off Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 25-14, 21-25, 15-13 in the Sioux City Heelan classic. The Missouri-Kansas City recruit recently broke a 17-year-old school record for career kills and now has more than 1,200.
>> Marie Palmer, Corning: Notched 16 kills, six aces and six total blocks in the Red Raiders’ regional-opening, four-set win over Villisca.
>> Annmarie Davis, West Harrison: The senior had 14 kills with .440 efficiency to go with five total blocks as the Hawkeyes edged CB Heartland Christian 17-15 in the fifth set in their regional opener.
>> Keeley Honold, Carroll: Finished with 20 kills and .351 efficiency as the Tigers edged ADM in five sets.
>> Kaisha Billings, Sioux City North: Had team highs of 20 kills and 27 digs in a five-set win over Sioux City East.
CROSS COUNTRY
>> Megan Maaske, Woodbine: Won the Western Valley Conference meet in 16:38 and led the Tigers to the team title.
>> Jake Weber, Boyer Valley: Finished second among the 78 varsity runners at the Western Valley Conference meet, behind winner Jason Kenny of Ridge View.
