Widespread changes to penalties for NCAA rules violations could go into effect Aug. 1, 2013 if the membership adopts the proposal next week, USA Today reported Thursday night.
And the changes would hold head coaches responsible for rules violations committed by their assistants — even, in some cases, if the coach claims he or she didn’t know what the assistant was doing. Penalties would include head coach suspensions.
It’s another item to add to the coach’s already-full plate, but it would be the kind of proposal that put coaches and the compliance staff on precisely the same page.
