Of the four Class A football quarterfinals that will be played Friday, the one that intrigues me the most is Omaha Burke at Millard North.
I’ve covered the Mustangs several times this season and they definitely deserve that No. 1 rating. Among the victories on their very difficult schedule was a lopsided win over the host Bulldogs.
But what I saw from Burke this past Friday night in a 35-18 win over Omaha Westside was a team playing with a lot of confidence. The Bulldogs led 35-6 and only two fourth-quarter touchdowns by the Warriors made the game seem that close.
Whether Burke can stay with powerful Millard North the second time around remains to be seen, but I was impressed by the Bulldogs’ postgame demeanor after their win over Westside. Head coach Paul Limongi didn’t shy away from the fact his team would be facing the Mustangs next, and his squad seemed eager to accept the challenge.
We’ll see how it all plays out this Friday.
