In the second day of college basketball action, the Missouri Valley conference pushed its record 6-2. Both losses have come to ranked teams, including Evansville’s 58-49 loss to Notre Dame on Saturday.

No. 22 Notre Dame 58, Evansville 49: Jack Cooley scored the first nine points of the game and finished with 19 to lead the Fighting Irish to victory in the preliminary round of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. Cooley also had 11 rebounds and six blocks, while preseason all-Missouri Valley selection Colt Ryan finished with 15 points for the Purple Aces.

Drake 96, William Jewell 66: The Bulldogs led their Division-II opponent by 11 with 15½ minutes left, and then went on a 17-2 run to put the game out of reach. Preseason all-MVC forward Ben Simons scored 25 points for Drake to lead all scorers.

Northern Iowa 103, Wartburg 50: UNI, which never trailed its Division III foe and led by as many as 57 points, hit 79 percent of its shots in the second half. Deon Mitchell had a game-high 18 points in 14 minutes to lead five Panthers in double figures.

Wichita State 71, North Carolina Central 57: Wichita State led by 36-18 at halftime and jumped out to a 22-point lead early in the second half. Carl Hall recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds for the young Shockers squad while redshirt freshman Ron Baker led the team in scoring with 18 points.
