When No. 5 Norris (11-1) has the ball: Coach Jim Jacobsen’s Titans, who average 35.7 points a game, run out of the Maryland-I with James Kruger. He leads Class B with 2,190 yards and has 26 touchdowns. Fullback Nick Davis and quarterback Jakson Reetz each have run for more than 600 yards. Reetz is a 52-percent passer who averages five attempts a game. Gross is allowing 123 yards rushing and 8.8 points a game. Anthony Vigneri has a team-high 97 tackles. Jacob Johnson has six interceptions.
When No. 3 Omaha Gross (11-1) has the ball: Coach Tim Johnk’s Cougars, who average 28.7 points a game, have a 2-1 ratio in rushing-to-passing yards. Vigneri has 1,053 yards rushing, with senior quarterback Zach Johnk (the coach’s son) throwing for 1,084 yards. Norris is giving up less than 11 points a game, with Reetz its leading tackler. Defensive back Byron Hood has three pickoffs and four fumble recoveries.
Stu’s pick: Expect defenses to have the upper hand, which happens frequently in Class B finals, and both teams like to play physical football. In a game that breaks long absences in the state finals for both teams, look for Gross to eke out a win.
