When No. 5 Norfolk Catholic (11-1) has the ball: Coach Jeff Bellar’s Knights, who average 41 points a game, sport one of the more balanced offenses of the teams in the finals. Jordan Bellar, his son, has thrown for 1,755 yards and 24 touchdowns, with Riley Knake and Allen Lewis his two main receiving targets. Jackson Love has rushed for 1,048 yards and 18 touchdowns. Boone Central, which allows 12.7 points a game, has gotten team highs of 72 tackles and 6.5 sacks from senior Beau Bremer.
When No. 2 Boone Central/Newman Grove (11-1) has the ball: Coach Arnold Johnson’s Cardinals, who average 37 points a game, made a midseason switch to the I-formation with success. They’re on a nine-game winning streak. Tanner Mazour has thrown for 1,334 yards — his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard season — and rushed for 885 yards. Blake Slizoski leads the Cardinals’ run game with 1,003 yards. Norfolk Catholic, which has allowed 14 points a game, has linebacker Kyle Schaefer as its leading tackler.
Stu’s pick: Norfolk Catholic rallied to beat the Cardinals 35-31 early in the season. The rematch may be lower-scoring, but expect the Knights to be the first to win three Class C-1 titles in a row.
