Nebraska coach Bo Pelini doesn’t know how the All-Big Ten voting will go, but he made a case Tuesday night for Husker nickel and cornerback Ciante Evans.
“I’ll say this: If there’s a better corner in the conference than Ciante, then somebody’s got to show it,” Pelini said on Sports Nightly on the Husker Sports Network. “Somebody better show me and try to convince me.”
Pelini said he doesn’t know whether it will help or hurt Evans with postseason consideration that he plays so much nickel. But Eric Hagg was voted first-team All-Big 12 and third-team All-American in 2010 after playing the position all season for the Huskers (as well as in 2008 and ’09).
Evans, a junior from Arlington, Texas, has 47 tackles on the season, with two sacks, seven pass breakups and an interception.
“Knock on wood, I haven’t seen him get beat very much,” Pelini said. “We ask a lot of the guy at that position, and he’s playing at an extremely high level.”
