The girls basketball season is less that two weeks old, and look what’s already happened…
– No. 1 Lincoln Southeast was defeated by Millard West.
– No. 2 Omaha Central was defeated by Southeast.
– No. 3 Seward had its 104-game win streak ended by Lincoln Pius X.
The Wildcats’ victory over the Knights caught me off guard, but I was really surprised the Bluejays lost at home to the Thunderbolts. I thought Seward had a good chance to challenge that state record of 111 straight wins (set by West Point Central Catholic from 2001-06) but not so.
And that record isn’t going to be broken anytime soon. The longest win streak in the state right now stands at 12 (Class D-2 Wynot).
What does it mean? Fasten your seat belts…we’re in for a wild ride this season.
