Nebraska senior I-back Rex Burkhead added to his long list of accomplishments Friday night by being named the 2012 winner of the Guy Chamberlin Trophy at the Huskers’ annual football banquet.
The Chamberlin Trophy has been awarded since 1967 and goes to the senior who has shown by the play and contributions to the betterment of the NU squad that he has the qualities and dedication of Chamberlin, a former Husker All-American who was voted into both the college and pro football halls of fame.
Also honored were linebacker Sean Fisher with the Tom Novak Trophy and defensive tackle Baker Steinkuhler as the Cletus Fischer Native Son Award.
Those three will be honored during the Outland Trophy banquet Jan. 10 in Omaha.
Burkhead and Steinkuhler also were named team captains, along with linebacker Will Compton, quarterback Taylor Martinez and kicker/punter Brett Maher. Martinez was named offensive MVP and Compton was the defensive MVP.
