Scouting College of St. Mary: Former UNO starter Jessica Zaruba (from Norfolk Catholic), a backup for the Mavs last season, ranks third in NAIA Division II in assists (5.9 per game) and 29th in steals (2.6). … The Flames are ranked No. 25 in NAIA Division II. … Among NAIA II teams, St. Mary ranks seventh in 3-pointers (9.0 per game), eighth in assists (18.6), and 12th in blocked shots (4.2) and steals (12.7). … Tiffany Anzalone (Omaha Mercy) is fourth in NAIA II with an average of 3.2 3s per game, while Theresa Elworth is 12th in scoring (18.6). … Karyn Bixler (Omaha Roncalli) ranks in the top 31 in NAIA II in three categories: steals (16th, 3.1), assists (28th, 4.1) and blocked shots (31st, 1.4). … Amanda Woodring (Millard West), another UNO transfer, made a UNO-record eight 3s in the Mavs’ 88-49 win over St. Mary last season. A starter averaging 8.9 points, she’s missed the past seven games because of injury and is doubtful for Friday’s game. … The game with UNO counts as an exhibition for the Flames.

Scouting UNO: The Mavericks lead the series with their neighborhood rivals 25-1, losing only in 1975. Last year’s meeting was the first since UNO’s 60-57 win in 2004-05. … Backup forward Casse Vaughn has scored 65 points in 108 minutes, a rate that produces 24.1 points every 40 minutes. … Taijhe Kelly has 18 blocked shots in 176 minutes, an average of 4.1 per 40. The 6-4 sophomore from Carson, Calif., already has 61 career blocks to rank seventh in school history and needs 23 more to rank fourth. … UNO topped 50 percent from the field for the second time this season (53.8) in Monday’s 67-63 win at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, winning despite a season-high 21 turnovers and only five trips to the free-throw line. … Ericka House, who had 15 points while making 3 of 7 from 3-point range against UAPB, has made 34.4 percent (21 of 61) from long range and is on pace to make 65 3s for the season, which would be the third-highest total in school history.
