Recruiting: Nebraska lands KC DT Maliek Collins
Sam McKewon Omaha World-Herald

Nebraska’s 2013 recruiting class got its second high school defensive tackle in three days when Kansas City (Mo.) Center prospect Maliek Collins committed to the Huskers during his official visit. All three local recruiting services — Huskers Illustrated, Husker Online and Big Red Report — confirmed the commit.

The 6-foot-2, 285-pound Collins is a three-star prospect, and had offers from Missouri, Iowa, Iowa State and Kansas, but he was a Husker lean ever since he took an unofficial visit during the year.

Collins is one of the best heavyweight wrestlers in the state of Missouri. Though a bit raw as a prospect, he’s in that local, 500-mile radius Nebraska must win, and his tape shows that he understands leverage. Collins had an explosive senior season with 15 sacks and 46 tackles for loss.

On Friday, NU got a commit from Orlando (Fla.) defensive tackle Kevin Maurice. Collins is the 19th commit for the class.
