Scouting UNO: All five starters scored in double figures in Saturday’s 84-79 loss at Cal State Bakersfield. … In six games (two wins, four losses) since a 95-72 home loss to South Dakota when UNO shot 37.8 percent from the field, the Mavs have shot 51.6 percent (180 of 349) from the field and have made 38.5 percent (42 of 109) from 3-point range. … Post John Karhoff was one of UNO’s few bright spots in the first meeting with South Dakota, getting the better of solid South Dakota post Trevor Gruis with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists. … Justin Simmons has scored in double figures in nine straight games, averaging 19.8 points. … Senior guard Tyler Egli scored a season-high eight off the bench while making 2 of 3 from 3-point range against Cal State Bakersfield, in only the third game in which he’s played 11 minutes or more. … Forward Alex Welhouse recently passed Troy Kloewer (1993-97) for ninth place on UNO’s career 3-pointer list with 132.

Scouting South Dakota: The Coyotes are coming off an impressive 97-78 win at Oakland that has put them in fourth place in the Summit League. The Coyotes had lost the previous two games (to Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne and Missouri-Kansas City) after knocking off rival and league title contender South Dakota State. … Freshman Casey Kasperbauer of Carroll, Iowa, scored 23 points against the Golden Grizzlies. … In a 95-72 win over UNO on Dec. 29, guard Brandon Bos had career highs of 23 points and 10 rebounds. Backup forward Eric Robertson hit all four of his 3-point tries while scoring a career-best 15 against UNO. South Dakota hit 11 of 21 from long range. … Bos is fourth in the Summit League in 3-point shooting (45.9 percent), while Kasperbauer is sixth (43.6). … Guard Karim Rowson, averaging 10.0 points, recently has been coming off the bench.
