Marcus McWilson used Twitter to publicly reopen his recruitment, decomitting from Nebraska almost a full year after originally pledging to the Huskers.
McWilson’s tweet Sunday: “Officially decommitted from Nebraska. Not an emotional decision, doing what’s best for me.”
It’s certainly a blow for NU, which needs depth at that position after losing both its starting safeties to graduation. McWilson (6-foot, 195 pounds) is a Cardinal Mooney product out of Youngstown, Ohio (the hometown of Bo Pelini and Tim Beck). And McWilson, who committed to NU last February, has a high school teammate, Courtney Love, who’s part of the Huskers’ 2013 class and is already on campus.
But new Kentucky coach Mark Stoops and UK assistant Vince Marrow are also Cardinal Mooney alums. And it appears McWilson, who visited Kentucky this weekend, is favoring the Wildcats.
Signing day is Feb. 6.
