Here’s an update on Grand Island, Neb., native and former Nebraska athletic department video whiz Jeff Schmahl.

He has resigned as senior associate athletic director for external operations at Texas A&M to move to New York with his wife in order to help their son expand his cookie business, called “Schmackaray’s”, in Manhattan.

Schmahl, a Nebraska graduate and tennis letterman, spent 14 years in the sports department of KOLN/KGIN television in Lincoln before joining the Husker athletic department for 10 years working with HuskerVision, promotions and brand management.

Schmahl followed former Nebraska A.D. Bill Byrne to Texas A&M, and has been in charge of many major projects while also overseeing the nationally renowned Aggie golf program.

Good luck to Jeff, Maria and Zach. We hate to see good guys like Jeff leave the athletics business, but 34 years is a long time.
