Former Nebraska assistant Mike Ekeler is headed to Southern Cal after two seasons as co-defensive coordinator on Kevin Wilson’s football staff at Indiana.

Wilson confirmed the move Friday night on Twitter: Mike Ekeler has accepted a job at Southern Cal. He is an excellent coach and we appreciate the contributions he made to our program.

According to the USC site on Rivals.com, Ekeler interviewed for the same position — linebackers coach — with the Trojans a year ago. Scottie Hazelton eventually took the job but left USC after one season to become defensive coordinator at Nevada.

Ekeler was the Huskers’ linebackers coach for Bo Pelini from 2008 through 2010. The former Kansas State player and native of Blair, Neb., also had worked under Pelini at Louisiana State and Oklahoma.

Ekeler will join a USC staff that added Clancy Pendergast as defensive coordinator last month but also parted ways with secondary coach Marvin Sanders, who had worked with Ekeler at Nebraska.
