Scouting UNO: Paige Frauendorfer, who scored 24 points Thursday in a loss at first-place South Dakota State, had 25 in UNO’s 61-52 win against North Dakota State in Omaha on Jan. 24. Her career high is 26. Jamie Nash had 11 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds (and 10 turnovers) in the first meeting between the teams. Nash broke her own UNO single-season assist record Thursday, as she ran her total to 168 — two more than she had last year. Sophomore Taijhe Kelly became the fourth Maverick to reach 100 career blocked shots. UNO is fifth in the Summit League, one game behind fourth-place Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne, one game ahead of Missouri-Kansas City, and 1½ games ahead of North Dakota State.
Scouting North Dakota State: The Bison have an All-Nebraska backcourt in Katie Birkel of Lincoln Southeast and Jamie Van Kirk of Sutton. Birkel is 11th on North Dakota State’s all-time scoring list with 1,399 points. She’s eighth all-time in assists (343), fifth in 3-pointers made (129), and tied for eighth in steals (196). North Dakota State has lost three straight games and six of eight, including the setback to UNO almost a month ago. The Bison were picked to finish fourth in the Summit, but lost 6-foot-5 preseason second-team pick Janae Burich (injury) and guard Hannah Linz (cancer) for the season.
