Scouting South Dakota: The Coyotes used a 21-6 run spanning halftime to take control of a close game, then held on to beat UNO 62-57 in Vermillion, S.D., on Dec. 30. … South Dakota is in third place in the Summit League, a half-game ahead of Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne. … Tempestt Wilson is averaging 16.1 points in Summit League games, third best in the league. … Point guard Alexis Yackley, at 5.2 overall and 5.5 in league games, trails only UNO’s Jamie Nash in assists among Summit players. … Backup Sam Mehr shoots 41.0 percent from 3-point range in league games, fourth among qualifiers.

Scouting UNO: Though ineligible for the Summit League tournament as a second-year Division I program, the Mavericks still have an outside chance of qualifying for the Women’s Basketball Invitational. … The Mavs are 11-4 at home, including 4-2 at home in Summit League games. … Taijhe Kelly has blocked at least five shots in five consecutive games, averaging 5.8 in that stretch. The sophomore leads the league in blocked shots (3.1 in league play) and ranks 16th in the country overall (2.5 per game). … Nash is ninth nationally in assists (6.7 per game) and 17th in steals (3.2). … Backup guard Ericka House leads all Summit League players who have started fewer than half her team’s games with an average of 9.4 points. She leads the league with 2.2 made 3s per game.
