TOP GAME
Grand Island Northwest won the first state final to go to two overtimes. It was the first extra-period game in a Class B final since York nipped Lexington 39-38 in 1977, the tournament’s first year, and only the third two-OT contest in any championship round.
TOP PERFORMER
Lincoln Southeast’s Jess Shepard grabbed 19 rebounds and officially scored 26 points.
REVIEW POSSIBLE
Notice that “officially” is used to describe Shepard’s scoring. A second-quarter basket was credited to her instead of Alexa Kastanek, which would affect Shepard’s pending Class A tournament record of 81 points. The Nebraska School Activities Association was notified late Saturday night.
THEY SAID IT
“Please don’t mention free throws.” — Pender coach Larry Ballinger, whose team beat O’Neill St. Mary’s for the Class D-1 title despite making only 10 of 26 foul shots.
