Creighton received seven votes in the Associated Press Top 25 after winning the Missouri Valley regular-season title on Saturday.
At 12:05 p.m. Friday, the top-seeded Bluejays will play the winner of the Bradley-Drake game at the Missouri Valley Conference’s Arch Madness tournament in St. Louis.
Gonzaga (29-2) took over the top spot for the first time in school history. (You may remember that we highlighted the Zags in our mid-major hierarchy infographic following last season’s NCAA tournament.)
The Bulldogs were followed by Indiana, Duke, Kansas and Georgetown in the top five spots, with Miami, Michigan, Louisville, Kansas State and Michigan State rounding out the Top 10.
Florida, New Mexico, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, Marquette, Saint Louis, Syracuse, Arizona, Oregon, Pittsburgh, VCU, Wisconsin, UCLA, Notre Dame and Memphis were also ranked.
Saint Mary’s (Cal.), which defeated Creighton 74-66 on Feb. 23, received 47 votes. Cal, which Creighton defeated 74-64 in mid-December, received 33 votes. Akron, who lost to Creighton 77-61 on Dec. 9, received four votes.
