It’s not a surprise, but it’s still disappointing to see Northwestern basketball coach Bill Carmody lose his job.
After 13 years as the head of the lone power-conference program never to have made the NCAA tournament, Carmody was let go Saturday. Northwestern, hit with four season-ending injuries, lost its final nine games to finish 13-19.
Carmody was a straight-shooter with a wickedly wry sense of humor. Hate to lose guys like that. The question now is whether a couple of highly touted recruits he had lined up to come will follow through.
