Football coaching changes at Seward, Perkins County

Jamie Opfer has been promoted to head football coach at Seward, where he was an assistant the past 14 years on Greg Welch’s staff. Welch resigned after the 2012 season with a 109-79 record at Seward and 197-117 overall. Also, Kevin Simmerman is replacing Steve Borer as the Seward athletic director. Simmerman has been the A.D. at Cozad and earlier at Fairbury.

Carlie Wells, who took Elgin/Pope John to the 2011 and 2012 Eight Man-1 football titles, has been hired as football coach and athletic director at Perkins County. Chip Kay, who held both positions at Perkins County, is the new superintendent at Shelby/Rising City.
