Scouting UNO (14-15): Mavericks have won eight straight games, all in Summit League play. It’s UNO’s longest win streak since an 11-game stretch in 2011. … South Dakota State is second in the league at 5-3, while preseason favorite North Dakota State is third at 3-3. The three Summit teams UNO has played are a combined 6-16 in league games, including 6-8 when not playing the Mavs. … Cory Buckley, Tuesday’s starting pitcher, went 8 for 17 (.471) at the plate in a four-game sweep of Western Illinois. Buckley is on a six-game hitting streak, during which he is hitting .478 (11 for 23). … Freshman Alex Schultz went 6 for 11 (.545) against WIU.

Scouting Iowa (12-18): The Hawkeyes, led by former Creighton coach Jack Dahm, are 2-7 in Big Ten play, including 1-2 against Nebraska. … UNO won 2 of 3 against Iowa when the teams played a series in Wichita, Kan., from March 16 to 18. … Keith Brand went 3 for 6 in the series against UNO, Kris Goodman was 4 for 9 and Jake Yacinich went 5 for 13. … Goodman leads the Hawkeyes with a .339 average, while Yacinich is at .314 with a team-high 17 RBIs. … Nick Day has hit Iowa’s only homer. … Ricky Sandquist (1-0) leads the pitching staff with a 1.50 ERA in 30 innings.
