TOP PERFORMER
Lucas Venegas, Grand Island: The senior forward had a hand in each of the Islanders’ three goals Wednesday. Venegas tallied his 27th goal of the season and dished out a pair of assists. Honorable mention goes to Lincoln Pius X’s Nick Pohlen, who recorded a hat trick.

BEST GAME
KEARNEY 4, MILLARD WEST 3, SO: Bearcats keeper Quincy Bennett stopped all three Millard West attempts in a shootout and Kearney’s three kickers each scored. Bennett’s third stop set off a wild celebration in the goal by the Bearcats, who move into the semifinals for the fourth time since 2007.

THEY SAID IT
“The sequel, usually it’s never as good as the first movie, but I think Prep-Grand Island II is going to be a blockbuster.”
— Prep co-coach Tom Hoover on his team’s rematch with Grand Island in Friday’s semifinals

TOURNAMENT BREAKDOWN
BUCKLE UP: Friday night’s Class A boys semifinals promise to be worth the price of admission. Two Metro teams take on teams from outside of Omaha. Grand Island and Prep, both which looked the part of contender in the first round Wednesday, square off the first semi. South and Kearney meet in the other after each grinded out wins in the first round.
DON’T BLINK: There were plenty of goals in Wednesday’s six matches. The four Class A games themselves produced 22 of the 27 scores on the day. Seven of the 12 teams that played scored at least three goals.
LADIES NEXT: Thursday marks the first day of girls games with four Class A battles.
