Best on the track: Lincoln Pius X, which had won the Class A girls 3,200 relay three of the past four years without getting an all-class gold medal, broke through with the foursome of Sarah Kottwitz, Tarin Van Slyke, Megan Drozda and Alyssa Thavenet running the No. 5 time all time at 9:25.16.

Best in the field: Tierra Williams of Auburn went to No. 2 on the all-time chart in the girls long jump with a wind-aided leap of 20-1¼ for an all-class gold.

Surprise of the day: Pius X’s boys finished fourth in their loaded district in the 3,200 relay, but ended up on top in a NASCAR-like finish. Jacob Holtmeier got to the line first to bring home golds for him and teammates Mitch Grosserode, Chad Berens and Bryan Butler.
