After a redshirt year to acclimate to college life, NU’s biggest defensive tackle will vie for time on a line that needs him to deliver up to his considerable potential.

While reports out of spring camp were decent, Valentine is not considered a likely starter right now. To earn that, Valentine will have to be in the kind of condition that allows him to play three downs. More than that, he’ll have to be technique-sound; Nebraska’s young linebackers need a disciplined line in front of them to make plays at the second level.

Though Valentine is still young, summer conditioning and preseason camp are crucial, as a number of freshmen will be nipping at his heels.

Should he turn the corner, Nebraska gets a physical, explosive tackle at the point of attack.
