Husker Camp Countdown: No. 43 Sam Cotton
Sam McKewon Omaha World-Herald

From now until the start of fall camp, The World-Herald will be counting down the top 50 players you need to know heading into the 2013 football season.

Sam Cotton | 6-4 | 235 pounds | RFr. | Tight end

The first of two Cotton brothers on our list, Sam follows in the footsteps of a third brother, Ben Cotton, a three-year starter at tight end who’s battling for a NFL job this summer. Sam Cotton isn’t quite as tall as Ben. For now, he’s not as bulky, either. But in his high school career at Lincoln Southeast, Sam Cotton showed good hands and quick burst off the line, whether it was to run a route or block a defensive end. With a relatively thin depth chart at tight end, Sam Cotton’s likely to play quite a few snaps right away, especially in two-tight end snaps.

This year, Sam will be coached by his dad, Barney Cotton, who moves from the main offensive line coach to more of a run game coordinator role.
