The most veteran linebacker on Nebraska’s team has never had a better chance to make an impact. Roach has 12 total tackles in two years, but Will Compton’s gone now, leaving the Elkhorn product to compete with sophomore David Santos and redshirt freshman Michael Rose for middle linebacker snaps.

Roach, an emerging leader, seems to be at his best when he’s knifing through the line of scrimmage on run-first plays, bringing down ball carriers in the backfield.

If he plays in space, against spread formations, with the same amount of assertiveness, Roach could earn a spot in the regular rotation.
