Husker Camp Countdown: No. 31 Matt Finnin
Sam McKewon Omaha World-Herald

From now until the start of fall camp, The World-Herald will be counting down the top 50 players you need to know heading into the 2013 football season.

Matt Finnin | 6-7 | 305 | Jr. | Offensive Tackle

A late bloomer who played last year for College of DuPage junior college, Finnin expects to play early and often despite NU having three senior tackles. We expect him to play a lot, too.

Finnin carries his weight well and blocks aggressively in the running game. Against the pass, Finnin will likely have to adjust his stance a little bit, but he’s still a big man to get around. FBS defenses are craftier and more athletic than the ones you find in junior colleges, so Finnin may need the nonconference season to acclimate to the higher level of play.

But there’s a reason Ohio State and Oklahoma wanted Finnin as badly as Nebraska did: He has an NFL frame and NFL athleticism. And he has the drive, too, to play for his late father, who recently passed away after a long illness.
