Nebraska was starving for depth last season at defensive tackle, so Curry got a long look as a true freshman. The native of Keller, Texas, did well enough through August that the NU staff decided to play him. That didn’t turn out to be much — Curry appeared in the four nonconference games, making three tackles — but it’s experience that should help him as a sophomore.

What’s the situation when fall camp starts? Curry and sophomore Kevin Williams likely will battle for the defensive tackle spot next to Thad Randle. However, Randle has had a number of injuries throughout his career, so anything could happen if the senior runs into any of that trouble again.

No matter what, Curry is an important piece at a position that requires more than a few bodies to get by.
